Médecins Sans Frontières

When I told Laurel I was keen for the site to support a charitable organisation during 2007 she was very quick to suggest Médecins Sans Frontières (otherwise known as Doctors Without Borders) for the site to support and in particular helping the plight of the people of Sudan.  This is clearly an issue that is very close to Laurel's heart.  The site is therefore is going to encourage Laurel’s fans to donate towards this deserving cause.  As an incentive Laurel has provided us with a number of signed photographs so anyone who makes a donation (however big or small) will be entered into a 3 monthly draw and will be eligible to win one of these fantastic photographs.  Details of how you can donate can be found by clicking the button below.

Like many international crisis situations they are often hidden and get very little media coverage.  Below gives you some idea of what is happening in the Sudan.

From the MSF Web site:

Now considered the largest current humanitarian emergency in the world, over one million people have been displaced by violence in Sudan. Between 100,000 and 140,000 Sudanese refugees have crossed the border into Chad and are sheltering, just inside Chad territory, along a 600km long strip of land. Inside Sudan, massive numbers are looking for some safe refuge from the violence. MSF is active in all three Darfur states in Sudan.

Increased insecurity in the troubled Sudanese region of Darfur, combined with decreased international aid, is adding to the misery of the population there. Access to those in need is at an all time low, while disease and violence remain a daily fact of life for the millions who have been displaced since the beginning of the conflict in 2003. Today, most are entirely reliant on the dwindling external humanitarian aid, and the threat of full-scale war is once again looming.

MSF is the ONLY international relief Agency working in this area.
